Nobody likes surprises, here’s a step by step guide so you know what’s coming up

At Smile, transparency is at the core of how we operate.

We believe you should know everything about how we work.

That includes being transparent about what you’re going to pay for your kitchen all the way through what our favourite tea bag is, (it’s not that Yorkshire stuff!)

So, we’ve put together this step-by-step guide that shows you what to expect, after you’ve attend your design appointment.

No surprises, just tip top service.

01. Get Ready For The Next Meeting

You’ve completed your kitchen design appointment!

The best part of the journey is still to come, your designer will go through your design in your first follow up meeting.

It can take up to a week to get this meeting booked in so it’s best to keep busy. The first step is a quick win.

Tell Us Who You Really Are

– Before we get too far into the project, it’s best to check we’ve got everything right about you.

– We’ll ask you to confirm your details such as your name, address, project details etc.

02. Finding Your Kitchen Fitter

Have You Got A Fitter Lined Up?

You may feel this is too early, but good kitchen fitters are hard to come by, a bit like mothers-in-law!

Start looking for one now to make sure your project stays on track.

Did you know we can help you find a fitter?

If you’ve been around the block as much as we have you’ll have met a fitter or two.

If you’re new to this kitchen game we could help you find one in your area. Have a chat with your designer to see if we can help.

03. Book Your First Follow Up Meeting

These meetings are usually about 7 days after your original design appointment – but if you want to do it earlier, let’s crack on!

So what happens in this meeting?

Your designer will go through your design and quote, you’ll also be able to give feedback on your design –  sometimes the idea you had before you started doesn’t turn out how you thought.

Nothing is locked in at this point you can still make changes throughout the process.

To help you make the best decision possible, in this meeting, you can also order your kitchen samples – did we mention they’re free?

Your kitchen designer will send you a booking link so you can choose the best time for you.

04. The Initial Follow Up Meeting

This is the moment you’ve been waiting for, the design!

These meetings usually last about an hour.

It’s the best opportunity you have to share any feedback you have on the design. Your designer will work their magic to make sure you’re getting the kitchen you really want.

It’s also time to order your free samples.

If you order your samples before 2pm we’ll get them sent out on the same day via 1st class post

Samples usually take 1-3 working days to arrive after they’ve been collected.

Keep in mind that we charge for bespoke samples, and they’ll take a bit longer, so factor that into your project timeline, but boy o boy they’ll be worth the wait.

05. Time To Book Your Follow Up Meeting

Another meeting that will take about an hour.

Here, you’ll be dotting the I’s and crossing the t’s on your design.

You’ll also chat with your designer about getting your kitchen fitter to pop round and check your measurements

If your fitter is busy, we can also do this for you. This is a great opportunity to make use of our in-house measuring service.

Before attending your follow up meeting, it’s best to share amendments beforehand.

Anything you didn’t mention in the first meeting, fire it over, and your designer will do their best to get it sorted before they see you again.

At this point, you should have got your free kitchen samples, the next meeting is the perfect opportunity to chant to your kitchen designer about them.

06. The Follow Up Meeting

You’ve made it this far, ow it’s getting serious.

Here you and your designer will be finalising the design and chatting though your samples.

If you’re not 100% happy with your first colour choice, roll on the 2nd round of samples. Don’t worry they’re still free.

When everything is tickety-boo with your design, we’ll start talking about organising the check measure – this is an important step that’s not to be missed.

07. The Check Measure

You’ll need to complete this step before booking on to your order confirmation

This is where we make sure the measurements you provided are bob-on.

That’s not to say we don’t think you’re a whizz with a tape measure, we simply want to make sure we’re giving  you the best kitchen possible for your space.

You can use your own fitter to do this; it usually takes around an hour to do, so they could pop around after they’ve finished for the day.

If your fitter’s busy, you could summon the Smile measurements team, we’ll pop round, drink some tea, measure your kitchen and be gone before your own drink’s gone cold – wizardry.

08. The Final Checklist (part 1)

We’re getting close now, but before we get over excited there are a few things we need to do.

Check your timelines

– You’ve got a finished timeline in mind; how close is it?

– If you signed on the dotted line right now, it will take between 6-8 weeks for the kitchen to arrive at your home. So, if your mother-in-law is coming to stay in 9 weeks, it’s time to get a wiggle on!

Confirm your appliance choices

– By now you’ll know what appliances you’d like in your kitchen. Send them to your Smile designer, who’ll make sure they fit in your design. Imagine it, that massive Smeg fridge you always wanted with its top cut off because it won’t fit within its alcove.

Finance application

– If you’re heading down the finance route, make sure you discuss this with your designer. It can take up to 7 days to come back.

– Top tip, let us complete the application; our designers have a higher success rate compared to customers.

Proof of address

– Easy one, do you actually live where you say? Hopefully this is self-explanatory.

09. The Final Checklist (part 2)

This next one’s important so we’ve given it’s own section.

We’ll ask you to send us an access video to make sure we can get to where we need. All we need is a quick video of you walking from the roadside to the kitchen – or wherever you want the kitchen placed.

Our cabinets are hand-built in our warehouse before they’re sent to you. Which is great for saving you time and money on fitting costs.

But, if access to your kitchen is a bit tricky, say for example… you live in a lighthouse with a narrow winding stair, we won’t be able to get the pre-built cabinets up there.

Think to yourself, ‘did I get the sofa in without a hitch?’, ‘Did the fridge find its way to the kitchen without dragging half a wall with it?’

You’ve probably seen that Friends scene where Ross shouts ‘PIVOT!!’ – for the sake of the dignity of our delivery team, best we avoid that!

If access is an issue, don’t worry, you’ll still be able to get your kitchen; we’ll just add a note to your order to deliver it flat-packed.

10. Book Your Order Confirmation Meeting

Oh gosh, very exciting, you’re going to order your kitchen!

In this meeting we’ll run through the design, the quote, and talk about your preferred delivery dates (remember to keep your mother-in-law well away around this time)

We’ll also ask for your fitter’s details; this is so we can put them in touch with our support team, giving them access to a font of Smile Kitchen installation knowledge.

Your Smile Kitchen designer will send you a letter before your meeting, going over everything in the design.

If you’re still not ready for the OC, book on to another FUM to settle your nerves.

11. The Order Confirmation Meeting

This is it, you’ve made it, you’ve chosen colours, cabinets, cookers, cupboards – the whole kitchen has been designed. Wahey!

Your designer will run the last few checks to make sure you’re happy.

If you are, let’s do it.

You’re kitchen’s been order. We’ll High Five Virtually. Confetti Will Fly. And we still won’t have asked you for a penny.

You’ve done it, now it’s time to take a breather before you get ready for the kitchen’s arrival.
