What Kitchen Cabinet Colours Are Actually Trending in 2026?

As of June 2026, warm earthy neutrals are the fastest-growing kitchen colour trend, while interest in red kitchens have remained consistent but flat.

Dark moody palettes haven’t gained any traction since January, and customers are also choosing softer greens and blues over bold statement colours.

Let’s dig deeper.

Key Takeaways

  • Over one third of kitchen designs have used warm neutrals.
  • Clay has risen from the fifth most popular colour to the second most popular.
  • Blue remains one of the strongest-performing colour families.
  • Red has shown little change in popularity over time.
  • Pink and purple have both declined.
  • Customers are moving towards confidence and comfort, not bold self-expression.

Trend 1: Are Warm Earthy Neutrals Really The Biggest Kitchen Trend Of 2026?

The short answer is yes. Warm earthy neutrals are really the biggest kitchen trend of 2026.

This was our strongest prediction, and we’re proud of how accurate it was.

What Did We Say?

At the beginning of 2026, we predicted warm off-whites would replace cool greys and stark whites.

We said homeowners would gravitate towards colours like mushroom, stone, taupe and clay.

After nearly a decade of cool-toned kitchens dominating Instagram feeds, Pinterest boards and showroom displays, we felt people were ready for something softer, warmer and felt a little more human.

What’s Happening With Warm Neutral Kitchen Colours in 2026?

Neutral kitchens are becoming an increasingly popular choice, growing from 27.6% of kitchen designs in March to 34.2% by May 2026.

That’s a rise of almost a quarter in just two months, making neutrals the fastest-growing colour family in our dataset.

Within this trend, clay has emerged as a standout colour, moving from a niche preference to one of the most sought-after kitchen finishes.

Together, these shifts point to a growing preference for warm, grounded spaces that feel both contemporary and timeless.

What Does This Trend Mean For Neutral Kitchen Design?

It seems people aren’t chasing excitement right now, instead opting for tones that feel grounded and livable.

A kitchen is a long term decision, so it could be a case of homeowners looking for a design with longevity instead of a potential passing trend, or short-term desire.

Warm neutrals sit in a sweet spot.

With their earthy feel, they bring nature indoors creating isntant depth and comfort.

It’s this diversity that makes warm neutrals feel current without being risk, bringing personality into a space without asking homeowners to commit to something they may lose interest in a few years from now.

Design Tip for Warm Neutral Kitchen Ideas

“If you’re stuck between playing it safe and adding colour, warm neutrals are your best friend.

A clay kitchen paired with oak worktops, stone textures and brushed brass handles will feel far richer than a plain white kitchen without becoming overwhelming.” – Jon, Designer

Trend 2: Are Red Kitchens Becoming More Popular In 2026?

According to our data, red kitchens aren’t becoming more popular.

We were not surprised to find we overstated this prediction.

We described red as “rising steadily” and positioned it as a colour with “longevity rather than a passing moment.

However this doesn’t seem to be the case.

What Did We Say?

In January we predicted rich reds, burgundy and oxblood tones would gain popularity as homeowners moved away from pale pastels and cooler colours.

Red felt like a natural response following years of soft, quiet kitchens.

It seemed a reasonable prediction, with its ability to bring warmth, depth and confidence to any kitchen design.

What’s Happening With Red Kitchen Cabinets in 2026?

Red kitchens accounted for around 4–5% of designs in both March and May 2026, showing virtually no movement despite predictions that burgundy and oxblood tones would gain momentum.

Even among customers actively seeking colourful kitchen designs, red has maintained a consistent presence rather than gaining momentum.

While there’s clearly an audience for red kitchens, the colour has not experienced the surge in popularity that many expected.

What Does This Trend Mean For Red Kitchen Design?

Red remains one of the most distinctive kitchen colours available, but when faced with a major renovation project, it appears most homeowners are finding warmth through clay, sage and blue rather than burgundy.

With red being a bold statement colour, it may seem a brave decision for homeowners, who prefer a safer option.

Design Tip for Red Kitchen Ideas

“If you introduce red into your kitchen, use burgundy or deep red tones on an island or tall cabinetry.

Balance them with brass handles, warm lighting and textured finishes to add depth without overwhelming the space.”

Katie, Designer

Trend 3: Are Dark Kitchen Colours Replacing Sage Green In 2026?

No, it seems dark kitchen colours aren’t replacing sage green just yet.

Despite our predictions that darker, moodier kitchens would take over in 2026, it seems homeowners are sticking with softer greens like Sage and Eden.

What Did We Say?

In January, we predicted dark colours would gain the confidence of homeowners.

We expected bold colours like deep greens, rich plums and charcoal to take kitchen design by storm.

We even went as far to say “Out with Sage, in with Forest Green.”

Maybe not…

What’s Happening With Green Kitchen Cabinets in 2026?

Sage and Eden continue to outperform darker greens, while Forest Green remains a more niche choice among homeowners.

Black kitchens represented just 3–4% of designs in both March and May, indicating that darker palettes have failed to gain meaningful traction despite growing interest in dramatic interiors on social media.

For all our talk of dark and dramatic interiors, it appears customers are still gravitating towards softer, lighter greens when it comes to their own kitchen designs.

What Does This Trend Mean For Green Kitchen Design?

Dark kitchen colours haven’t disappeared, but they haven’t become the dominant trend we expected either.

While Forest Green and darker palettes continue to have their fans, most homeowners appear to be finding their connection to nature through softer shades such as Sage and Eden.

With a kitchen often being a once-a-decade investment, that makes a lot of sense.

Darker colours can create a striking design statement, but they also ask for a greater level of commitment.

Softer greens offer many of the same benefits, while feeling easier to live with over the long term.

Design Tip for Green Kitchen Ideas

If you want the darker look, a Forest Green island paired with lighter perimeter cabinetry can give you the best of both worlds.

You get the drama where it matters without making the entire room feel heavy.”

Trend 4: Are Statement Kitchen Colours Becoming More Popular In 2026?

Surprisingly no. One of our biggest 2026 predictions was that homeowners would become more confident with colour. We expected to see more pink and purple.

We thought more kitchens would be designed around personality rather than playing it safe.

The data tells a different story.

What Did We Say?

We predicted that bold, expressive colours would become increasingly popular as homeowners used their kitchens to reflect who they are.

This was the Gen-Z trend, “this is me and I don’t care what anyone thinks”.

What’s Happening With Bold Kitchen Cabinet Colours in 2026?

Interest in pink kitchens fell from 6.6% in March to just 2.7% in May, while purple declined from 5.1% to 2.5% over the same period.

Together, they represent the sharpest declines of any colour family.

Far from embracing statement colours, customers appear to be moving away from them.

What Does This Trend Mean For Bold Kitchen Design?

This doesn’t mean people have suddenly become less adventurous.

Far from it.

What it does suggest is that when it comes to spending thousands of pounds on a kitchen, most people still want a degree of flexibility.

A pink kitchen might spark joy today, but will that still be the case in eight years?

That’s the question many homeowners seem to be asking themselves, resulting in a move towards colours that feel personal without feeling permanent.

Design Tip for Bold Kitchen Ideas

“If you love bold colour, bring it into the room through furniture, lighting, bar stools or a statement splashback.

You’ll get all the personality without committing every cabinet door to the cause.”

– Chloe, Designer

Trend 5: Are Blue Kitchens Still Popular In 2026?

Absolutely, blue kitchens are still a fan favourite in 2026.

One of our stronger trend predictions, blue has quietly been proving itself as one of the most dependable kitchen colours this year.

What Did We Say?

In our kitchen trend blog, we suggested that cool blues and clean whites would continue evolving in 2026. We anticipated a new form of minimalism.

They would be less stark, less clinical and more considered.

What’s Happening With Blue Kitchen Cabinets in 2026?

Blue kitchens held steady at around 16% of designs between March and May, making them one of the most resilient colour families in 2026 despite shifts elsewhere in the market.

Even within the blue category itself, we spotted something interesting happening.

Lighter shades of blue, like Spring, are becoming more popular than darker shades, which seem to be losing ground.

What Does This Trend Mean For Blue Kitchen Design?

With blue kitchens  homeowners can hit the sweet spot.

It’s a safe option without being boring. It’s colourful without being risky.

It feels just right.

The shift we’ve seen towards lighter blues also mirrors what we’re seeing elsewhere in the data.

Homeowners are still choosing colour, but they’re choosing calmer, softer versions of it.

Design Tip for Blue Kitchen Ideas

“If you’re considering blue cabinetry, don’t automatically go for navy.

Lighter, airier blues often work harder, particularly when paired with natural timber and warm metal finishes.”

– Matt B, Designer

Trend 6: Are Neutral Kitchens With Bold Accents The Future?

Yes and no.

Back in January, we predicted homeowners would increasingly choose neutral kitchens as a foundation.

We expected those neutral spaces to be paired with bold accent colours that added personality and visual impact.

The first part of that prediction was correct. The second part needs a slight adjustment.

Rather than embracing bold, statement colours, homeowners are using neutral kitchens as a backdrop for softer contrast, natural materials and layered design choices.

Recent reporting from Better Homes & Gardens  shows growing demand for two-tone kitchens that combine warm neutrals with timber textures, painted islands and subtle colour pairings.

What Did We Say?

In January 2026, we predicted neutral kitchens would continue to grow in popularity.

Our view was that homeowners would choose timeless cabinetry colours and then express their personality through colour and design details.

While that desire for personalisation remains, the way homeowners are achieving it has changed.

What’s Happening With Two-Tone Kitchen Cabinets in 2026?

As predicted, neutral kitchens have continued to grow, increasing from 27.6% of designs in March to 34.2% in May.

What’s surprised us is where homeowners are choosing to add contrast.

Instead of bold accent colours, we’re seeing growing demand for layered, two-tone kitchens that combine warm neutrals with timber finishes, contrasting islands and softer colour combinations.

This aligns with wider industry trends reporting that designers are increasingly favouring layered colour palettes over stark, monochromatic schemes.

What Does This Trend Mean For Two-Tone Kitchen Design?

The desire for flexibility appears to be winning.

Homeowners want kitchens that feel personal today without limiting their options tomorrow.

A neutral foundation allows them to refresh the look of their kitchen through lighting, stools, artwork, styling and accessories without replacing cabinetry.

Rather than making a bold colour commitment, they’re choosing designs that can evolve over time.

In uncertain times, adaptability becomes a feature.

Design Tip for Two-Tone Kitchens

“Think of your cabinets as the suit and the rest of the kitchen as the styling.

Choose a timeless neutral foundation, then create contrast through timber finishes, statement lighting, textured materials and carefully selected accessories.

The result is a kitchen that feels current today and can easily adapt tomorrow.”

Honorary Mention: The Return of Woodgrain Kitchens

One trend we didn’t cover is the return of woodgrain kitchens.

According to Houzz’s 2026 Kitchen Trends Study, wood cabinetry has officially overtaken white as the most popular cabinet finish, with 29% of homeowners choosing wood compared to 28% choosing white.

Forbes has gone as far as calling it “the end of the all-white kitchen”, with designers pointing to a growing preference for natural materials, visible woodgrain and warmer interiors.

It’s a trend that fits perfectly with our findings. As homeowners move away from stark whites and bold statement colours, they’re embracing warm neutrals, layered textures and natural ash timber finishes, creating kitchens that feel warm, inviting and built to last.

Summing It All Up

it’s clear that homeowners are prioritising warmth, comfort and longevity over bold design statements.

Warm earthy neutrals have emerged as the standout kitchen colour trend of 2026, while blue remains a reliable favourite.

Meanwhile, darker palettes, statement colours and rich reds haven’t gained the momentum we expected.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that people aren’t avoiding colour altogether.

They’re simply choosing softer, more timeless options, often pairing them with natural materials like woodgrain to create kitchens that feel warm, layered and built to last.

As always, trends will continue to evolve, but if the first half of 2026 has taught us anything, it’s that timeless design is firmly back in style.
